Bureau of Emergency Services  
 

 

Mission

Provide specialized emergency services including fire suppression, emergency medical care, hazardous materials response, urban search and rescue, swift water rescue, public education in fire safety and fire prevention programs.

Bureau Organization

The Emergency Services Bureau is organized to include one Assistant Chief overseeing three Division Chiefs and the Emergency Medical Services Division. There are five battalions organized geographically with 31 fire stations staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

This Bureau focuses on all aspects of field services, but primarily emergency operations and preparedness through a network of fire station-assigned resources and personnel. The Bureau is divided into four areas Divisions:

  • Division 14 is comprised of Battalion 1, Training and Special Operations.
  • Division 15 is comprised of Battalions 2 and 5.
  • Division 16 is comprised of Battalions 3 and 4.
  • The Emergency Medical Services Division is responsible for all medical functions, training and medical oversight.
Bureau Services:
There are 31 fire stations throughout the Fire District. In addition to protecting the unincorporated areas of the county, these battalions serve the cities of Camarillo, Moorpark, Ojai, Port Hueneme, Simi Valley, and Thousand Oaks. Fire stations are staffed by companies utilizing structural firefighting and wildland firefighting engines, rescue engines, medic engines, paramedic squads, ladder trucks, and other specialized apparatus that includes hazardous materials and urban search and rescue.

In addition to fire, rescue and medical responses, the Emergency Services Bureau maintains a special operations component that is responsible for countywide response to emergencies requiring technically skilled operations. Services provided by these specialized units include hazardous materials incident response, swift water rescue, and confined space rescue.

The Emergency Services Bureau includes a Regional Fire Training Center that works with all Department units to meet their unique needs. Additionally, the Training Center provides new firefighter trainees with a 16-week academy prior to their first assignment and also provides specialized training for other agencies, cities, and counties throughout the region.
