Fire Station 56 serves the north Malibu coast from a leased site at Camp Joan Meier on Yerba Buena Road. Originally this station was staffed by a single firefighter around the clock. Many fire stories abound about duty at Fire Station 56. The station is a two-bedroom apartment with a downstairs garage. In addition a shed was built in the early 1990s to accommodate larger engines.

Now, the Malibu Fire Station is staffed daily by three firefighters and houses a Pumper (Engine 56) and a brush patrol (Patrol 56). At this time a new Fire Station 56 is under development closer to the Pacific Coast Highway.
