Fire
Station 28 was built in 1950 to serve the Piru and east Santa Clara
Valley area. The station has been a strong
center for our volunteer firefighter program over the years producing
many full-time firefighters from those ranks.
The Piru Fire Station is staffed daily by three firefighters who operate
a 1999 Luverne pumper (Engine 28) and a 2003 Westmark/International
brush engine (Engine 328).
The Luverne pumper is based on a commercial chassis (Freightliner)
and is part of a three-engine study. This study will decide whether
the commercial chassis, which is significantly cheaper, can replace
the custom chassis found on our other fire trucks. Also, the size of the pumper
is being studied to determine if it will work better in the confining
environment of rural settings such as Piru.
