Built in 1959, Fire
Station 20 serves the Upper Ojai portion of Ventura County. Much
of the current station was built and/or modified by firefighters
stationed there in the 1960's and early 1970's. The
Summit Fire Station is staffed daily by 3 firefighters and
houses a 1999 Luverne 750 gpm wildland interface pumper (Engine
20) and a 2003 Ford Crewcab 4X4 (Utility 20). The Luverne pumper is based on a commercial chassis (Freightliner)
and is part of a three-engine study. This study will decide whether
the commercial chassis, which is significantly cheaper, can replace
the custom chassis found on our other fire trucks. Also, the
size of the pumper is being studied to determine if it will work
better in the confining environment of rural settings such as Upper
Ojai.
