The Planning and New Construction
Unit is responsible for project planning, plans review and inspection
services for new construction, plan check of State Fire Marshal
occupancies, water requirements and fire hydrants for fire suppression,
access requirements, helispot locations and high fire hazard
designations. Fire Prevention staff attend City and County Planning
Commission meetings to respond to staff or public inquiries
regarding Fire Department conditions related to developments
or projects requesting City and/or County approval.
The Unit staffs five public counters affording the community
a convenient location where they may obtain assistance with
building projects or answers to any fire prevention questions.
The public counters are co-located with the Building Departments
of the cities of Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Moorpark and the
County of Ventura. A full-time counter is operated at Fire Department
Headquarters.
