Bureau of Fire Prevention
The Fire Prevention Bureau is made up of six functional units that are both interrelated and mutually supportive. These functional units include: Planning and New Construction, Code Enforcement and License Care, Engineering & Fire Protection Systems, Fire Hazard Reduction & Filming, Community Education and Public Information.
Through its processes and programs, the bureau works to make Ventura County a safer place to live, work and play. They use creative techniques to apply the fire and building codes to the growth of the county’s dynamic communities and to educate and inform the public on ways to prevent fires and prepare for disasters.
Some of the duties of the Fire Prevention Bureau include: planning checks and inspection services for new construction, inspections of business and licensed care facilities, application and enforcement of the Uniform Fire Code, planning checks and inspection of all automatic fire sprinkler systems, reduction of fire hazards through the weed abatement program, providing filming permits, conducting community and youth programs that teach fire prevention and preparation, distributing department news releases, publications and media relations.
Mission
In partnership with the community, using all resources available to the Fire District, provide comprehensive public education and fire prevention programs for the protection of life and property.
Goals
- Enhance public safety and reduce property loss through education, public awareness, enforcement of codes and regulations, and participation in the legislative process
- Provide clear and consistent information to the public and business community through good communication and availability of Fire Prevention staff in strategic locations. throughout the county
- Provide effective passive life safety protection
- Identify community threats and educate the public on cause and prevention
