Light and Air

The light and air unit supports emergency operations. A special air compressor system refills the air cylinders for the SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) used by firefighters in a fire. The unit also carries a supply of spare air cylinders.
A diesel-powered generator supplies electricity to power portable lights or other electrical needs. On the roof of the trailer are two stadium-type lights that can be raised to light up the incident scene.
Food and drinks are carried for the rehabilitation of personnel on the emergency scene. A utility vehicle will usually accompany the light and air unit on emergencies to facilitate moving supplies around during an incident.
Staffing: The light and air unit is staffed by the crew from the engine where the unit is based.
Radio designation: Light and Air +station number.
i.e.: Light and Air 37.
