The Ventura County Fire Department is an all-risk, full-service fire department, composed of 560 men and women. We proudly provide fire protection, medical aid, rescue, hazardous materials response, and a variety of other services to the public.

Our response area covers 848 square miles and we serve more than 480,000 people in unincorporated areas of Ventura County and six of its cities:

What We Do
Preventing, Responding, Communicating, Educating
The Ventura County Fire Department's services are built around our mission of anticipating and responding to the dynamic public safety needs of our diverse community.
Preventing and Educating
We partner with our community to identify risks and empower people with the tools to prepare and protect themselves. As part of that responsibility, we enforce fire codes and regulations, review more than 2,800 plans a year, inspect more than 4,000 homes and businesses a year, and issue roughly 300 fire code permits a year. We also work with more than 14,000 residents each year to create defensible space through our Fire Hazard Reduction Program and conduct hundreds of public education, fire prevention and safety programs for children, adults and seniors.
Responding
We back up those efforts with a dedicated team response to more than 30,000 incidents a year. All personnel in our 31 fire stations throughout Ventura County are trained to provide the highest level of firefighting and emergency medical care to the citizens of Ventura County.
In addition to fighting fires, we respond to medical emergencies, traffic accidents, land and water rescues, hazardous materials calls, and a variety of everyday public service needs.
Last year, we responded to more than 19,000 emergency medical calls, 2,800 fires, 3,000 rescue calls, 2,800 public service calls, 1,290 alarms, and 650 calls involving hazardous materials - more than 82 calls a day.

Communicating
We make it our priority to communicate with the public, through our FCC dispatch center, which handles more than 685 citizen calls a day, to our public information office, which ensures that information is disseminated to the public in an emergency, to our fire prevention counters, which help people determine how to protect their homes, property and businesses against fire.
About the Ventura County Fire Protection District
The Ventura County Fire Department is a special district, formed by special election in 1928. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors 
is the fire district's board of directors. These five elected supervisors appoint the fire chief, and task him with providing fire protection services for the district.
